About Me
Social security denial - a journal of assistance

The Social Security system is in place to help us through difficult times. Unfortunately, there are some instances in which the system makes our lives even more difficult than they need to be. The day I received the denial letter for my claim, I wasn't sure what I was going to do. After talking with a few friends, I contacted a lawyer. That was the best decision I had ever made. Even with the professional assistance, getting the denial overturned and getting the money that I was owed took several months. I have kept a clear journal of my experience and loaded it with information that can help others get through what can be an impossible time.

How To Speed Up Health Insurance Claims

Alexis Garcia

Health insurance helps protect you and your family against financial hardship in the event of a medical emergency or an unexpected diagnoses. However, sometimes when a claim is improperly filed, it can extend the processing time and keep your health insurance money tied up in red tape, forcing you to pay out of pocket until the claim is approved. Thankfully, there are a couple of things that you can do to help speed up the claim process and prevent you from having to use your savings to pay your medical bills.

Status Updates

Depending on your health insurance policy and your health insurance company, you may be able to file a status update with them before you file a claim. This update basically gives them a warning that you may be completing a claim in the near future, and helps expedite the processing time. While this may not always be an option, especially in the case of medical emergencies, it can help keep the processing time to a bare minimum.

Get Copies of Medical Forms

One of the most important things that you should do when you do deal with a hospital or doctor is to get a copy of every medical form associated with your emergency, including the ones that are already being sent to the insurance company. This can help prevent snags if a document gets misplaced or if the claim needs additional proof and documentation to be processed, as you can simply send the documents directly to the insurance company instead of having them deal with your doctor or hospital themselves.

Stay Updated: Call the Company

After you've filed your insurance claim, you should constantly check the status of your claim to see if there have been any developments or if you need to provide any further information. Most insurance companies will have online portals that allow you to keep an eye on where your claim is on the processing timeline. However, if there is little or no movement in the process, you'll want to call the insurance company every few days to ensure that they are continuing to work on processing your claim. Be sure to take down the name and number of the agent that you are in contact with every time that you call, and make an effort to call early in the morning to beat the rush of other people who will be doing the exact same thing for their claims.
